RANCHO SANTA FE TECHNOLOGY, INC.

Company Provides Fortune 2000 Customers With Mission-Critical Computer Systems and Networks With Quality, Client-Focused Services

Since 1991 Rancho Santa Fe Technology, Inc. has been providing its customers with a unique blend of client-focused service and quality of purpose. "It's just how we do business, there's no compromises," said company co-founder and President Tres Conrique. That approach to doing business has resulted in a 100 percent client retention rate among its impressive list of Fortune 2000 companies. In fact, Rancho Santa Fe Technology was recognized last year as the winner of Arthur Anderson's 1999 Best Practices Award for Exceeding Customer Expectations.

"Rancho Santa Fe Technology is an entrepreneurial company based on an innovative business strategy predicated on a set of core values," said Tres Conrique, president of Rancho Santa Fe Technology. "Our vision in 1991 was to provide companies with `mission-critical' computer-system operations with a suite of services that would ensure their systems work day in and day out. We remain steadfast to our commitment to creating extraordinary customer loyalty."

Today, Rancho Santa Fe Technology has more than $15 million in revenues, and an loyal customers in a variety of industries, including high-tech and biotech, health care, telecommunications, banking/finance, defense, insurance and education. The company has established long-term service relationships with Cox Communications, 3Com, Peregrine Systems, Robert Half International, California Federal Bank, Linsco Private Ledger, Walt Disney Feature Animation, and many more.

Rancho Santa Fe Technology was co-founded in 1991 by Conrique, who had spent nine years as president and San Diego manager, respectively, for two local and regional interconnect companies. Originally established as a minority-owned business, Rancho Santa Fe Technology has grown to become one of the leading communications contractors in the western states with offices in San Diego, Alameda, CA. and Tempe, AZ.

"The company is focused on providing companies with services in three interrelated areas designing and installing voice and data structured cabling systems; implementing new enterprise-wide technology upgrades for wide area network (WAN) and local area network (LAN) infrastructures; serving maintenance contracts for vital WAN and LAN equipment such as routers, servers, hubs and PCs; and troubleshooting, repairing and scheduling maintenance service for vital desktop/server systems and networks.

The company also supports its customers throughout the West. It is registered and holds construction and architectural/engineering licenses in Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington and other western states.

Conrique said the profile of a typical Rancho Santa Fe Technology customer is one that is using a data communications systems to maintain or establish a competitive edge in their industry. "Information management is an essential part of their business and how they do that is typically through the implementation of sophisticated computer equipment and applications. Our customers are large, quality organizations who use equipment that is "mission-critical" to their business," he said.

In addition to installing high-speed, universal voice and data cabling, a significant portion of Rancho Santa Fe Technology's business today involves servicing computer systems through maintenance contracts. "Our clients call us when they have a piece of equipment that is not working properly, we then dispatch a technician to their site within a response time of two, four or six hours to either fix and replace the equipment."

"This service is very important to our clients, because they need to be working at peak efficiency day-in and day-out. When they call us with a problem we have to be there fast with a solution that keeps them in business," Conrique said.

"Our approach is very different from traditional maintenance service contractors who usually tell a company they will show up on their next scheduled visit, which might very well be in a few days. Some contractors will send the client a piece of equipment and make them swap out the bad piece. That's not how we do business. We take a very hands-on approach to repairing equipment."

Augmenting its cabling and maintenance/repair services, the company recently began providing companies with a turn-key technology upgrade service. When a customer purchases new equipment, it is shipped to Rancho Santa Fe Technology where it is warehoused, assembled, and configured for the client's particular network. The equipment is then deployed by Rancho Santa Fe Technology on a scheduled basis, and following installation, monitored by its technicians to make sure that it is performing properly.

Conrique said the company has also developed a particular expertise in technology change-outs and upgrades for organizations, particularly following a merger or acquisition. "With these jobs, our customers demand a high level of quality implementation," Conrique said. "These are complicated, highly-visible programs that are very critical to our clients' operations.

"We have to be able to change-out platforms in a way that people who are using the equipment see no affect. There is a high-level of complexity to these jobs and dependencies in engineering and configuration. And in some instances the time-frame for job completion is somewhat unrealistic but companies come to us because we are know for getting the job done on-time. We have reputation for delivering quality service in a very proactive, 'we-own-it' fashion, and our work is transparent to the customer."

Conrique emphasizes that today Rancho Santa Fe Technology and its 100 employees remain dedicated to its three founding principles.

"To create a business culture and environment where we always wanted to work; to make our customers our focus and the reason we are in business; and not to take on any business unless we could do the job with the utmost quality. We are still dedicated to these three principals," he said.
